Funeral Music
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Can we meet with you beforehand or have you play for us?

Absolutely, yes. Whether you would like to meet with me or hear me play before hiring me, or would like help deciding on some songs, please feel free to set up an appointment with me.

How do we choose our music?

Please consult Funeral Music: A Step by Step Guide. This article walks you through the detailed steps of choosing your music and what is customary for different services.

Can a friend or relative sing, play piano or another instrument during the service?

Yes, absolutely. Your loved ones are very welcome to perform as well.

Where have you performed at funerals?

I have performed for military, police and civilian funerals at “Beechwood National Cemetery“, “Hulse, Playfair & McGarry“, “Kelly Funeral Homes“, “Tubman Funeral Homes“, “Pinecrest/Cole Funeral Services“, “Whelan Funeral Home“, “Urgel Bourgie” as well as many churches throughout Ottawa, Montreal, Toronto and the surrounding areas. I have also performed for funerals in unconventional locations such as the Montreal Science Centre and the Toronto Convention Centre (for the city-wide police funeral of Sgt. Ryan Russell of the Toronto Police).

Do you sing in French?

Yes, I do. You are welcome to request songs in French. Here is my cover of “L’amour existe encore” by CĂ©line Dion:

We do not have a piano at our venue, do you bring your own?

Yes, I travel with everything I require: digital piano and sound system. Most churches have an acoustic piano or electric piano, but if they don’t, I can bring my own.

Do you need to do a site visit of our venue beforehand?

No. If I’m going to a venue I’ve never been to before, I will arrive extra early day-of to ensure that I have more than enough time to navigate and set up. I always travel with everything I need, even when I’m told there is a piano and/or sound available to me at a venue. I will still have my own equipment with me, just in case, as a backup.

Are you able to perform outdoors at a Graveside Service or Interment?

Yes. If it is not possible to connect to electrical power for my digital piano, I can still sing. I also play the flute. Solo flute is quite lovely and can be performed anywhere.

Do you travel outside of Ottawa for funeral music?

Yes, I have performed in Toronto, Montreal and the surrounding areas, and can travel to anywhere you need me.
